Adopt-a-Section
Now Seeking Adopters to Help Maintain the Northern Forest Canoe Trail!
Adopters take care of a stretch of Trail that is between a half-day to a full-day's paddle, or approximately ten miles. Adopters visit at least twice during the paddling season to do general upkeep such as:
- replacing missing or damaged signs
- clearing portage trails of blowdowns or overgrowth
- picking up trash
- maintaining paddler campsites
Adopters are the eyes and ears of their waterway, noticing any damage done by flooding or vandals and reporting the need for large-scale work projects.
Adopters Need:
- a boat and paddle, although some sections can be maintained without paddling
- a pair of work gloves
- basic hand tools such as a screwdriver and a bow saw
- a desire to get to know a waterway more intimately: its people, flora, fauna, shorelines, currents, and seasonal changes
